A SCOTS couple flew a cat 4,000 miles to their home after sick brutes in Egypt covered him in toxic paint.

Debbie Stephens, 56, was horrified when she read online about the street moggy being daubed blue and purple.

A charity in Cairo also told how the puss was badly beaten by thugs who spraypainted his white fur.

She and hubby Craig, 51, contacted Safe Haven Egypt, who had taken in the kitty — which they’d named Rainbow — and were nursing him back to health.

The sanctuary said they were looking to find a “forever home” for the cat.

The pair agreed to adopt Rainbow — but it then took them nine months to sort out his switch to their Edinburgh house.

Debbie said: “It broke my heart to read about him being abused and see photos of him spraypainted.

“It’s disgusting that people abuse cats like that. But it feels good that we have been able to give Rainbow a home now — he could have died after what he’d been through.”

Debbie first approached Safe Haven Egypt last November but the pandemic delayed his transfer.

Rainbow now has a thick coat of white fur again.

Craig said: “We’ve got two other cats but he is getting along with them, which is nice.”

Cat sanctuary co-founder Kareema Ibraheem said: “We’re happy to see he’s blossomed in his new home.”
