by Jackie Grant, https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/authors/jackie-grant/A Dumfries singer-songwriter is set to showcase her talents with a new online release.
Elia Davidson will unveil the self-penned track ‘Driftwood’ on Friday.
The talented former St Joseph’s College pupil compiled the Indie-style track, documenting the challenges and anxieties sparked by moving on in life.
She created the song after experiencing sleepless nights sparked by the upheaval of moving away from home and starting university in a new city.
Elia, who also plays guitar and piano, was bitten by the music bug at an early age after spending hours listening to albums with her music fan dad Billy.
The 20-year-old - currently studying at the University of Edinburgh - says she always wanted to create her own music.
She told the Standard: “I started playing guitar and piano on and off when I was younger. I have always been a big fan of Taylor Swift, who writes her own stuff. She is known as a singer-songwriter and I am more into the songwriting side of things but I’ve mostly written songs for competitions and things.
“Driftwood is about the sleepless nights and anxieties caused by the changes in life and not being able to shut off.”
Law student Elia, who is set to head back to the capital to study from her home in the town’s Maxwellton, comes from a family of teachers, but credits her upbringing with her interest in music.
She said: “My style is kind of Indie/folk, but not too folky. I grew up listening to music with my dad, so I have a weird niche taste in 90s alternative Scottish bands.”
The track will be available via digital mediums Itunes and Spotify by searching ‘Elia Davidson, Driftwood’, or take a sneak peak at https://eliadavidsonepk.weebly.com/
