Kolkata: A local court in Barasat, West Bengal in its verdict on Monday convicted Anindita Pal Dey, a lawyer, accused of murdering her husband Rajat Dey with the wire of a mobile charger in 2018. The punishment for the accused will be pronounced on Wednesday.

Anindita Pal Dey, the wife of the deceased Calcutta High Court lawyer Rajat Dey (35), was arrested five days after her husband was found dead at their residence on November 25, 2018 in New Town by Bidhannagar Commissionerate. Anindita was arrested five days after she admitted to her involvement in the murder.

The case has begun after Rajat’s father had filed an FIR against Anindita after his son’s death.

After the verdict, Rajat’s father said on Monday, “My son was brutally murdered by his wife with a mobile charger. The murder was pre-planned and we have learnt from police that she had searched the internet about ways of murders. She had kept away their pet dog and the child in her parents’ house on the night of murder.”

“My son could not imagine that his wife will go out for dinner and then murder him at night. It was really shocking,” Rajat’s father said.

On the night of November 25, 2018, Anindita and Rajat had an altercation over an alleged extra-marital affair of the former. According police, Rajat had allegedly threatened to die by suicide.

Police had said that Anindita then allegedly strangulated him with a mobile phone charger. However, she had initially claimed that her husband had died by suicide using a bed sheet.

This is Anindita’s third marriage and the couple have a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
