Here are the Chelsea evening headlines on Saturday, September 12.

How Chelsea should line up at Brighton

Frank Lampard has some decisions to make ahead of his side’s opening game of the new season against Brighton on Monday night.

The Blues travel to the south coast having made several high-profile additions in the transfer market, including the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

There is also interest surrounding who will be selected in goal, with Kepa Arrizabalaga yet to convince.

Regardless of who Lampard picks, the expectation will be a victory at the AMEX Stadium. Brighton will hope to make life difficult for the visitors, but there will be no more excuses for Chelsea after last season’s transitional phase.

Our writers have given their verdict on who should start the Brighton game.

Imminent arrival of new goalkeeper means Kepa is running out of time

Chelsea’s imminent signing of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is set to pile more pressure on Kepa .

The former will join the club hoping to establish himself as Lampard’s No.1, a position that proved a dilemma throughout last season.

For Kepa, the signing of the 28-year-old Senegal international means there are likely to be no more second chances.

The Spaniard is expected to start the campaign between the sticks ahead of Willy Caballero, so that will give him an opportunity to impress before Mendy’s transfer is confirmed.

If he doesn’t take his chance, though, Kepa could find himself cast aside, despite being the most expensive goalkeeper in football history.

Hudson-Odoi could be loaned out after Havertz signing

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been told he may be sent on loan following the signing of Kai Havertz, 90min have reported .

The Blues are now blessed with plenty of attacking options, with Werner and Ziyech also brought in this summer.

And Hudson-Odoi could find his game time limited, despite his reputation as one of the country’s most promising youngsters.

The 19-year-old managed just seven appearances in the Premier League last season and has struggled to really impress since Lampard’s arrival.

The Chelsea boss is now reportedly considering a loan move for Hudson-Odoi ahead of the start of the new campaign.
