Huawei Reveals App Gallery Progress and Developer Plans at 2020 Developer Conference

This year is a particularly interesting one since it involves updates to their App Gallery and Huawei Mobile Services core. Huawei has shared some important updates on their platforms on their 2020 Developer Conference.
The Huawei Mobile Services Ecosystem in brief
Huawei also revealed interesting statistics about the App Gallery. It has over 490 million monthly active users in over 170 countries. 1.8 million developers have joined Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem and 96,000 apps have been added to the App Gallery.
They also mentioned that user app downloads reached 261 billion which shows how popular it has been among users.
“Despite increasing challenges, AppGallery and the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem has continued to show progress this year, all thanks to our global partners. With this strong support and recognition, we will continue to invest in the ecosystem as we build one of the top three app distribution platforms in the world,” said Mr Wang Yanmin, Huawei’s President of Global Partnerships and Eco-Development said.
App Gallery
Starting with the App Gallery, Huawei highlighted their achievements on their app store in the first three quarters of 2020. Huawei has signed up some local apps to the Kenyan app store. The company revealed they have signed up Standard Media Group, Tuko, Nation Media Group, KPLC, Absa, DTB, StanChart and others.
Huawei says they made it a priority to reach the diverse needs of users across different regions. Their Global + Local strategy is their approach that focuses on providing popular local apps.
The company says they have been able to add partners like Bolt, Deezer, TomTom Navigation, LLine, Qwant and Telegram to the AppGallery.
Huawei also iterated their commitment to help app developers achieve cross region operation and global exposure. For example, they said TomTom navigation saw 22 times growth in download rate due to these partnerships. They also said Bolt saw a 136 times increase in European and African downloads from week one to week 13. They also said that they have helped over 700 partners enter the Chinese market which is one huge market.
Going forward
Huawei revealed plans to cooperate further with developers and partners. The company will build three global ecosystem cooperation labs in Russia, Poland and Germany.
They will also build 5 global developer service centers in Romania, Malaysia, Egypt, Mexico and Russia. These will be used for providing local services and platforms to help developers better grow and innovate.
