Bellator’s Scott Coker has reached out to Brock Lesnar but no closer to signing deal
by Lewis MckeeverBellator CEO Scott Coker is serious about signing Brock Lesnar.
The longtime MMA promoter revealed in a recent interview with MMA Junkie that he contacted Brock Lesnar’s team and offered him a potential super fight opposite PRIDE heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko.
Lesnar is reportedly a free agent after stalled negotiations with the WWE, but Coker doesn’t know whether the former UFC heavyweight champion is interested in returning to MMA.
“The situation with Brock Lesnar is I don’t even know if he’s a free agent,” Coker said. “I don’t even know if he wants to fight. I don’t know what his situation is. I reached out and talked to them and said, ‘Hey, if Brock wants to fight Fedor, we have the guy who could be the fight that never happened.’ We’ll see if that happens. We’ll see if that’s something he’s serious about. Only Brock knows.”
Coker believes if he could get ahold of Lesnar directly he could convince the WWE superstar to sign with Bellator.
“If he was available, I’m sure we could make a deal,” Coker said. “I’d go right to our CEO, Bob Bakish, and talk to him about it. I’d say, ‘This is a great opportunity.’ I would bring Stephen Espinoza (and) David Nevins in the mix because it’d probably be a big commitment, but that’s a big piece of business, as well.”
UFC president Dana White is also interested in signing Lesnar for a potential mega fight opposite Jon Jones but, as of right now, no one seems to know the specifics of Lesnar’s situation.
Lesnar last fought in the UFC in 2016, when he earned a unanimous decision win over Mark Hunt in the UFC 200 co-main event. The result was later overturned to a no contest, however, after it was revealed that Lesnar had tested positive for clomiphene.
