‘Scream’: Matthew Lillard Isn’t Convinced That Stu Macher Died from His Injuries in the Original Film
by John SquiresMuch like Scream 4‘s Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), Matthew Lillard‘s Stu Macher has been presumed dead ever since the events of the original Scream, but that doesn’t mean he can’t ever come back to the franchise. Whereas Ghostface pal Billy Loomis was definitively shot in the head, well, Stu Macher’s demise back in 1996 wasn’t quite as definitive.
Back in May, Lillard had expressed a high level of interest in potentially returning to the franchise, and a new tweet just this week continues to keep the hope alive for Stu’s return.
In the wake of a massive day of news for the upcoming relaunch of the Scream franchise, Lillard tweeted: “I mean… it was just a TV? Right? You’d think he’d SURVIVE? #Stu”
Stu, you may recall, was stabbed multiple times before having a TV set dropped on his head. Injuries that one could conceivably survive, it’s at least worth pointing out…
We now know for sure that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett‘s Scream is set in the very same universe as the original Scream and all of its sequels – just yesterday, Marley Shelton was confirmed to return as Scream 4 character Deputy Judy Hicks – so there’s certainly lots of potential there for returning characters. As we’ve learned, never say never!
In addition to Shelton, Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are back.
Spyglass and Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide on January 14, 2022.
