Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has lashed back at Jürgen Klopp following his claims on the Blues' spending this transfer window.

The 42-year-old has successfully landed the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, and Malang Sarr this summer - spending about £200 million, and counting.

Lampard defended the London club with all the signing having failed to bring in players in the last two transfer windows due to the ban placed on them by FIFA.

He said ahead of his side's opener vs Brighton: "The reality is — other than maybe Leicester, which was an incredible story — most clubs that win the League in the modern day have recruited well and have recruited at quite a high level money-wise.

"You can go through the Liverpool players — Van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, Keita, Mane, Salah. Incredible players that came at a very high price. Liverpool have done it over a period of time.

"What we have done is come off the back of a ban and probably try to address the situation to help improve us. We know that Liverpool have spent at a high level.

"We know they have an incredible coach. We know they have incredible players. The really smart thing Liverpool have done is believe in their coach and believe in their system for a number of years. It's a great story but it's a story where they've spent money on players."

Spurs' boss Jose Mourinho also agreed with Jürgen Klopp's comments, saying: "Those are the rules," after the 42-year-old brought in a number of quality players.

Liverpool boss had earlier fired a shot at Lampard saying his side will take a queue from what Chelsea did in the transfer market this window.

He said: "We live in a world with a lot of uncertainty. "For some clubs, it seems to be less important how uncertain the future is — owned by countries, owned by oligarchs, that's the truth.

"We're a different kind of club. We got to the Champions League final two years ago, we won it last year, and became Premier League champions last season by being the club we are, by being led the way we are led.

"We cannot just change it overnight and say, 'So now we want to behave like Chelsea', now they've signed a lot of players".'

Jose Mourinho makes stunning statement about Lampard after win against Wolves

The Reds handlers have only added £11.75 million-rated left-back Kostas Tsimikas to his title-winning side.

Legit.ng earlier reported that France international N'golo Kante has hinted that he is open to reuniting with former boss Antonio Conte at Inter Milan.

The duo worked together to help Chelsea win Premier League and FA Cup titles during the Italian manager's reign at Stamford Bridge.

He was also part of the Blues team that conquered Europe and win the Europa League after the triumph over Arsenal two seasons ago.
