UFC Vegas 10 results: Biggest winners, loser for ‘Waterson vs Hill’ last night in Las Vegas
by Adam Guillen Jr.UFC Vegas 10 went down last night (Sat., Sept. 12, 2020) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring a women’s Strawweight bout that saw Michelle Waterson defeat Angela Hill after five rounds of women’s Strawweight action (see it again here). In the co-main event, Ottman Azatair knocked out Khama Worthy in a little more than 90 seconds (video here).
Biggest Winner: Ottman Azaitar
As if the Lightweight division wasn’t already stacked, Ottman Azaitar proved that he is indeed the real deal, knocking out Khama Worthy in just 93 seconds of the first round. It marked his his second straight knockout win in as many UFC fights. But for those who followed Azaitar prior to him making his Octagon debut, they already knew just how dangerous he is, as the undefeated (13-0, 2-0 UFC) combatant has five straight knockouts to brag about, eight overall, three straight in the first round and 12 finishes in 13 fights. In short, the man knows how to take care of business inside the Octagon. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing, expect him to climb up the rankings rather swiftly and calling for — and receiving — bigger fights.
Runner Up: Michelle Waterson
Waterson and Hill put on an entertaining bout for fight fans in the main event of the evening. In the end, “Karate Hottie” walked away with a split-decision win. And based on her last two losses, I’m sure Waterson will take the “W” anyway she can. Indeed, “Karate Hottie” was staring down the barrel of three straight losses and a deeper hole to climb out of. With a much-needed win under her belt, Waterson can breathe a sigh of relief and go into her next fight with a lot more confidence. Sure, UFC likely wouldn't have cut her coming off three straight defeats, or even four, but future prospects of pay raises and title shots would’ve been harder to come by. It is indeed a huge win and confidence booster to Waterson.
Biggest Loser: Andrea Lee
We can’t give this spot to Hill, she fought a good fight and losing a split-decision pretty much means it could have gone either way. Sure, it’s tough to lose two straight — both via split decision — but losing three in a row just stings a bit more, and that’s just what “KGB” did after coming up short against Roxanne Modafferi. Lee started off her UFC career on the right foot, winning three in a row while extending her win streak to seven. But over the course of the past year, “KGB” just has been unable to fire on all cylinders. Granted, two of those defeats were via split decision to tough competition in the former of Joanne Calderwood and Lauren Murphy, but at the end of the day a loss is a loss and being on such a horrid run isn’t the best of things when UFC is in the process of thinning the herd.
