A Question Of Sport's Sue Barker 'removed from dream job' after 23 years

by

A Question Of Sport’s Sue Barker has revealed she was ‘removed’ from the BBC show after 23 years at the helm.

The presenter is leaving the programme along with team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell as part of a major shake-up, with the broadcaster confirming the next series will be their last.

Addressing her exit, Sue said the BBC would have to force her out of the job as she never would have voluntarily stepped down as host.

‘I love the show so much they would have to remove me, it would have been tough for me to walk away,’ she shared.

‘I absolutely loved my 24 years fronting A Question Of Sport, it’s been my dream job.’

Sue added to the Daily Mail: ‘But I understand the BBC want to take the show in a new direction and I’m sad to say goodbye.’

News of Sue, Matt, and Phil’s departure from A Question Of Sport was confirmed by a BBC spokesperson, who said: ‘We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show’s longest-reigning host over the last 23 years.

‘And Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy over 16 and 12 years respectively.

‘Together they have ensured A Question Of Sport remains a firm favourite with the BBC One audience.’

Matt Dawson spoke out on social media following the surprise axe.

He told his followers: ‘Thanks for all the lovely messages. I’m not sure how to respond so I’ll have a think.

‘Needless to say I will miss @QuestionofSport immensely….’

Echoing a similar sentiment, Phil added: ’13 yrs @QuestionofSport has been a great part of life… Going to miss it hugely… Thanks so much for all the lovely messages!!’
