No trains between Manchester and Liverpool following 'police incident'

The train line between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road is blocked in both directions

There are no services running between Manchester and Liverpool following a police incident on the line.

Officers are currently responding to an incident at Halewood Station in Merseyside.

The incident means the train line between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road is blocked in both directions.

Emergency services are believed to be on scene. The nature of the incident has not been confirmed.

Northern Rail say they expect the disruption to continue until at least 10am on Monday morning.

A number of services have been delayed, cancelled or diverted as a result of the ongoing disruption.

Tickets are being accepted by Northern and TransPennine Express for services between Manchester and Liverpool.

In a post on Twitter, Northern Rail said: "Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Liverpool South Parkway and Manchester Oxford Road all lines are blocked.

"Disruption is expected until 10:00 14/09."
