"The council should know better" - Workers make embarrassing spelling mistake in road marking

A freshly painted road marking has had to be changed after workers made a spelling mistake.

The embarrassing blunder appeared in Barton Road, Worsley, last week.

The marking, painted in bold white letters outside a row of cottages, was intended to warn motorists that a set of parking spaces were reserved for residents only.

Instead of 'residential', it read 'resedental'.

Salford City Council has since admitted responsibility for the error and rectified it.

A picture of the incorrect road marking circulated around Facebook on Wednesday.

It provoked comments from residents berating the authority over the mistake.

Andy Connell joked: "I think someone must have said to the painter 'Keep an eye out' and they've taken it literally!"

"My red teacher’s pen is severely twitching," said another user.

Worsley councillor Robin Garrido described the error as a 'silly mistake'.

He added: "The council should know better. It is not setting a very good example for youngsters.

"They should check things more carefully."

A Salford City Council spokesperson said: “Workers made a spelling mistake when putting new residential markers on Barton Road in Worsley.

"Residential was spelt incorrectly and also with the letter i missing – and we could’ve done with more eyes on the job too.

"The markings have been corrected and we would apologise to residents for any inconvenience.”
