Report: Southampton could sell Sofiane Boufal, Olympiakos latest club to show interest

Southampton midfielder Sofiane Boufal could be on his way of the club, with Olympiakos the latest club to emerge as suitors.

The Morroccan star has struggled to find his best form at St Mary’s since arriving in a reported £16m deal from Lille back in 2016.

And  now, according to Hampshire Live, Boufal could be on his way out, with the Greek giants joining Real Betis is being among the clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old.

The report states that Boufal is among a number of players Ralf Hassenhuttl could be prepared to sell this summer, quoting the Saints boss as admitting ‘maybe he is one of them, yes’, in response to if Boufal is among those who could leave.

Boufal failed to score for the Saints last season and was left out completely by Hassenhuttl in their opening day defeat to Crystal Palace.

That decision in itself could spell the writing being on the wall for the Southampton man. However, he does at least seem to have a choice to make, with both Spain and Greece bound to be appealing destinations for the midfielder.

This will firmly go in the book of signings who have not worked out and it’s only right that Southampton look to move Boufal on.

He’s simply not fit in under Hassenhuttl in particular and if the Saints can recoup some money for their man, then that will be a big bonus.

He isn’t going to play, as demonstrated in the opening fixture at Palace. A move, then, would be best for all concerned with this one.
