In a rather unwholesome development, workers at popular Portuguese restaurant Nando’s were filmed removing expiry date stickers from the quick-service restaurant’s outlets by one of their colleagues.

However, the person who recorded the videos was happy to keep quiet until after he was fired from the fast-food giant for absconding from work.

After being fired from his job, Talent Chirumezani decided to use the damaging videos to extort the Simbisa Brands owned fast food outlet.

iHarare has established from online publication 263Chat that Chirumezani met with George Marufu, the Simbisa Brands General Manager, and threatened to post the videos on social media unless he received US$10 000 (R166 000).

Despite Chirumezani’s assurances that he would delete all the videos once he received the $10 000, Marufu went to the police and reported Chirumezani for extortion. The police then worked with Marufu to set a trap for the disgruntled ex-employee.

Chirumezani was nabbed in Greenwood Park a few minutes after receiving the US$10 000 in cash on Saturday. All the money was recovered and the serial numbers matched the money Simbisa Brands paid to Chirumezani. The money will be used as evidence at the trial.

In an interview with a local tabloid, H-Metro, Chirumezani claimed that he was in dire straits and that his family had no food to eat. He also railed against his former employers, accusing them of firing him over a petty issue.

Chirumezani is expected to appear in court soon.
