Police have shed light on why a Derby street was closed off yesterday.

Witnesses say Walnut Street, off Osmaston Park Road, in Allenton, was cordoned off by officers before 1pm on Sunday, September 13.

Residents came forward saying they had seen police in the area and now officers from Derbyshire police have revealed the reason for their presence.

A spokesperson from the force said: "Officers were called to reports of some disorder on Walnut Street in Allenton, between 11.50am and noon on Sunday, September 13, which involved two men.

"One man was taken to hospital following the incident and released later that day.

"A man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of affray, and has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

"We would like to hear from any witnesses, or anyone with information about the incident, to contact us."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference 2*480170 and the name of the officer in the case DC Jamie Thompson.
