Muscat: The Ministry of Labour on Monday discussed the replacement plans of expat workforce at the private health institutions by citizens. Urging them not to employ subcontracted workers, the Ministry said that many healthcare centres in Oman hire workers from local companies instead of bringing them on visa from foreign countries.

A statement from the Ministry of Labour says:"The Ministry of Labour organised a meeting headed by Sheikh Nasr bin Amer Al Hosni, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for work, in the presence of Reda bin Jumah Al Salih, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Dr. Mazen bin Jawad Al Khabouri, Director General of the General Directorate of Private Health Institutions in the Ministry’s General Office with the directors of human resources of the private health institutions to discuss a number of issues and challenges facing this sector.”

During the meeting, Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni discussed the need of activating replacement plans of expats at private health institutions and more job openings for national cadres. He called on the institutions to cancel contracts of expats for the employment of Omani workforce and advised them not to work with them.”

Al Hosni added that the job avenues should be for Omanis and that expats should be considered as only exceptions.

The Undersecretary indicated that the Ministry is ready in cooperation with the competent authorities at the Ministry of Health, to provide hands-on training to the Omani workforce to replace the expatriates.

Al Hosni also confirmed that the Ministry is working in cooperation with all the government agencies to begin procedures for replacing the expatriate workforce with Omani cadres.
