Tottenham offer insisted upon – Price continues to fall, which could be the plan

On Sunday we covered claims from Italy of Tottenham making an offer to Arkadiusz Milik.

Spurs hadn’t approached Napoli, but rather the player’s entourage, and said they’d pay him €5m a season, likely after tax, if he signed a pre-contract agreement in January and moved to them next July.

Of course, that wouldn’t solve Jose Mourinho’s immediate need for an additional striker, but it was possible Spurs were putting pressure on Napoli to bring their price down: Sell now for a reasonable amount, or lose him for nothing within months.

On Monday, across two separate articles, Gazzetta dello Sport insist upon Tottenham’s offer. First they say if there’s no transfer fee agreed with an interested club, he’ll be able to sign with Spurs in January, and then they state Tottenham would be willing to offer a four year contract, but only as a free agent.

Of course, the latter part doesn’t make a lot of sense for Spurs.

Interestingly, Italian journalist Ciro Venerato now claims Napoli are asking for €20m plus €5m in bonus payments, so the price is falling further.

AS Roma remain in the fight, perhaps the keenest club, and there’s now a suggestion Juventus haven’t completely given up.
