Metro Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — Take a deep dive into local and world literature, art, and design, or say farewell to one Manila’s most beloved gig venues.
One for the Road: Route 196 Farewell Gig
After 15 years of service to college orgs, the gig circuit, and OPM legends, Route 196 is closing their doors. The music venue also announced that they will be having a farewell gig and fundraiser for the benefit of their staff and workers on Saturday, Sep. 12, 2020. Some of Route’s staple acts from different generations of local music, such as Banna Harbera, She’s Only Sixteen, The Sun Manager, Ebe Dancel, and Itchyworms, will be performing on Facebook Live for free.
You can still buy a ticket for a Zoom meet-and-greet with the third wave of acts for ₱300 until Sep. 9.
Branding Your Home Business
And A Half graphic and type designer Clara Cayosa will be holding a branding workshop for at-home upstarts on Saturday, Sep. 12, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 n.n. The workshop will cover various topics, from creating a unique visual identity to working within the context of the quarantine.
You can sign up with a minimum donation of ₱250. Proceeds will go to Bigay Buhay Multipurpose Cooperative, a livelihood program for PWDs.
Human is in the Details
Visual artist Dale Erispe is best known for his landscape paintings that show the stark contrast between mankind and nature. He will be exhibiting his new solo show “Human is in the Details” in Blanc Gallery, Quezon City on Saturday, Sep. 12, 2020, from 1 to 7 p.m. The show will be running alongside two other exhibits: “Making the Pain go Away” by Julius Redillas, and “Right Now” by Pow Marin.

Extraterritorial
Insituto Cervantes de Manila will be holding an online discussion, moderated in Spanish by Fernando Iwaski, with different writers who have pursued their careers in their non-native languages on Wednesday, Sep. 9, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. The dialogue will explore the different reasons why artists choose this path, featuring the writers Elia Barceló (Spain), Daisy López (Philippines) and Siu Kam Wen (Peru) as guest speakers.

ArtSpeak Online: Poklong Anading
Ateneo Art Gallery continues their ArtSpeak Online series on Wednesday, Sep. 9, 2020, from 2 to 4 p.m. with contemporary artist Poklong Anading who was the recipient of the 2006 Ateneo Studio Art Residency Grant in Australia.
