Football: Nene brace gives Fluminense 2-1 win over Corinthians

RIO DE JANEIRO: A goal in each half from Nene helped Fluminense to a 2-1 win over Corinthians in Rio on Sunday (Sep 13) and condemned the Sao Paulo side to their second consecutive defeat.

The former Monaco and Paris St Germain striker put the home side ahead after eight minutes when he hooked home a cross from a prone position and he doubled their lead when he converted a penalty two minutes from time.

Fluminense had Lucas Barcellos sent off in the 90th minute and then Mateus Vital got a goal back for Corinthians but the three points stayed in Rio.

The result was Fluminense's first win in four matches and lifted them into eighth place in the Serie A, with 14 points from 10 games.

Corinthians, who sacked their coach after Thursday's loss to city rivals Palmeiras, are in 14th spot, with nine points from nine matches.
