Four-pot G-Class? Mercedes-Benz reveals new base G350 variant in China
by Ryan BubearMercedes-Benz has launched a new base version of its G-Class in China, with the G350 employing a four-cylinder petrol engine.
According to the Stuttgart-based firm’s Chinese website, the G350’s turbocharged 2,0-litre petrol powerplant makes 190 kW and 370 N.m (the latter spread from 1 800 to 4 000 r/min), directed to all four corners via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
That’s enough, says the German firm, for a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 8,1 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h.
Still, it’s by no means a budget Geländewagen, with the listed starting price in China of ¥1 429 800 translating to nearly R3,5-million.
For the record, though, the Mercedes-AMG G63 kicks off at ¥2 228 800 in that country, which equates to nearly R5,5-million; in South Africa, the G63 currently starts at R3 207 480. The SA range furthermore includes the G400d, which in “Stronger Than Time” guise is priced from R2 755 840.
