Arsenal are being linked with a move for Dijon goalkeeper Runar Runarsson.

The Telegraph claimed over the weekend that the Gunners are weighing up a move for Icelandic international, with Emi Martinez looking exit-bound.

The Argentine stopper is on the verge of completing a move to Aston Villa, with talkSPORT reporting the fee could reach £20 million.

Martinez is being cashed in on by Arsenal as they attempt to raise funds for other targets such as Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar.

Runarsson represents something of a left-field replacement, and it’s fair to say most Arsenal fans don’t know much about him.

The Evening Standard has today provided a bit of a lowdown about the 25-year-old, and have included some quotes from Dijon’s chief scout Sebastien Larcier, who discovered the player.

He said in 2018 after the player signed: “When we discovered his profile, the interest was immediately strong… he is technically talented, he is not afraid to play high and has very good footwork.

“In addition, he has the temperament and charisma.”

TBR’s View – Runarsson could be shrewd business

It sounds as though Runarsson really fits the profile of player Mikel Arteta wants at the Emirates.

The idea of him being good with his feet is ideal, with Arsenal now intent on building from the back.

He could be a good backup for Leno at a bargain price of just £1.5 million.
