Following the heartbreak of losing the 2019/20 Absa Premiership title to Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day, all eyes have been on Kaizer Chiefs, with questions being raised as to what changes need to be made in management and in the squad. While Amakhosi have already announced the immediate departure of under-fire coach Ernst Middendorp, as well as his assistant coach Shaun Bartlett, there is still uncertainty with regards to who will replace them as well as how Chiefs will strengthen their side.

This formed the central topic of debate in the episode of The Carwash podcast with Teko Modise & Sean Roberts, as they discussed the crisis at Naturena. ‘The General’ stated plainly, “I don’t wish to be a Kaizer Chiefs board member. I just hope that the decisions they make are not going to be based on emotions, [that] they’re gonna be based on facts. You need to look at the team, where are you going to strengthen? [They need] creativity, players that are willing to fight for the team. Defensively, where they were lacking, who can they sign? Who is available that will fit the profile of the team?”

Former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Sean Roberts “They’ve got a good squad but it doesn’t look like they’ve got a happy squad. There’s talks of Kearyn Baccus wanting to leave, but for sure they need strength across that back, they need strength in that midfield. Up front, I’m quite happy with them, they’re just not lethal enough but once Billiat finds his form again, you’ve Nurkovic and you’ve got Castro. You can’t ask for much more”
