Actor Suriya's post on ‘Manuneethi Tests’ attracts ire of Madras HC Judge
by Bangalore MirrorTamil superstar Suriya posted a heartfelt message on social media for those National Eligibility cum Entrance Test examination (NEET) aspirants who died by suicide and urged people to raise their voice against the medical entrance exam for admission to the MBBS course.
He called such tests ‘Manuneethi tests’ and heavily criticised the government for holding the exam amid the coronavirus pandemic. He also said that due to fear of coronavirus the courts of the country are delivering justice through video-conferencing while students are ordered to be fearless and write the exam in person.
Justice SM Subramaniam of the Madras High Court has written to Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi to initiate suo moto criminal contempt of court proceedings against actor Suriya.
However, fans, followers and other celebrities also took to Twitter to express their support to the actor.
NEET was held amid elaborate COVID-19 measures and security on Sunday, September 13. In Tamil Nadu, sporadic protests were staged against the exam following alleged suicides of three medical aspirants. NEET, which was earlier scheduled to be held in July, was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
