Dundee United ace Edwards could face retrospective ban for challenge on Rangers’ Morelos
by David FowlerSFA compliance officer Clare Whyte could review Ryan Edwards' challenge on Alfredo Morelos.
The Rangers ace was stretchered off during his side's 4-0 win over Dundee United.
United ace Edwards followed through with a clearance and caught Morelos' thigh, leaving the striker with a stud hole in his leg.
The Colombian was stretchered off, adding to Gers' injury woes with Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack and Brandon Barker also crocked.
Now, Edwards could face a retrospective ban for the incident.
Referee Kevin Clancy didn't issue a yellow card and compliance officer Whyte could hand out punishment if the challenge is deemed excessive.
Speaking after the match, boss Steven Gerrard said: “I don't want to make headlines and say a kid should have got this or that. I don't want to be that type of manager.
"What I would say is that I'd be very interested to see what the decision would have been from the officials had the shoe been on the other foot and it was Alfredo who had made that tackle."
However, former Hearts star Michael Stewart said he was 'sick and tired' of the Gers boss making Morelos out to be the victim.
He said: "Honestly, I'm sick and tired of comments like that to be perfectly honest.
"Rangers as a club have come out on a number of occasions and said they cannot defend Alfredo Morelos anymore.
"You can't both be the victim while then also saying you can't defend him anymore.
"It's a bad tackle, Ryan Edwards is lucky to get away with it, he could have easily got a red card but enough of this that if it was Alfredo Morelos it would be different.
"We've seen a number of occasions where Alfredo Morelos has got off with things, other times he hasn't. Just let it go - it was a bad tackle."
