RMNH to organise lecture series to impart awareness of wildlife conservation
by Staff ReporterRegional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal (A Regional Centre of National Museum of Natural History, New Delhi) is organizing online lecture series for two days every weekend since September 4, 2020 in collaboration with Bhopal Birds, Bhopal.
The objectives of these lectures are creating awareness among the public towards conservation of forest, environment and wildlife.
This weekend, on Sunday, Suhas Kumar (Retd. IFS), Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Forest Department, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh; delivered online lecture on The History, Policies, Legal Framework and Strategy for Wildlife Conservation in India and the challenges for Future.
During his lecture, he emphasized that it is Indian tradition to conserve the forest and wildlife while according to Bible all creatures has been made for the service of human beings which resulted in mass killing of wildlife during British rule.
After independence there was rapid expansion of agricultural field and industrialization which lead a drastic decline in forest area. Govt. of India framed many laws and acts to conserve wildlife & environment and made the responsibility of the State and citizens of India through amendment in constitution.
Presently, corridors are being constructed for comfortable movement of wildlife resulted in very good impact on wildlife conservation.
In future, to conserve the wildlife, man and animal conflict can be avoided by controlling the expansion of cities and urban areas.
