Neymar has been caught in the middle of another controversy after he was sent off in Paris Saint-Germain's 1-0 loss to Marseille in a Ligue 1 clash.

The Brazilian attacker was involved in a scuffle with defender Alvaro Gonzalez telling the fourth official he heard a racist comment as he walked off the pitch.

PSG's Leandro Paredes and Layvin Kurzawa, and Marseille's Jordan Amavi and Dario Benedetto, were also given their marching orders.

The referee had to take a second look at the incident through the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and Neymar appeared to have punched Gonzalez at the back of the head.

Neymar went on social media to post that his only regret was not hitting Spanish defender Gonzalez in the face.

The defender also responded on social media denying any claims on racism: "There is no place for racism."

Andre Villas-Boas said in a post-match conference said that the matter will be investigated: "There is no place for racism in football but I don't think that was the case.

"We'll have to look at it."

The match had 17 yellow cards shown in font of a 5,000 capacity at Parc des Princes before five red cards were brandished.

Florian Thauvin finished off Dimitri Payet's cross from close range to score the only goal of the match and hand PSG their second loss in a row for the first time since 1984-85.

PSG lost their first league game of the season to Lens last weekend with ten of their first team players not available for the clash.
