Lagos: LAWMA Launches Waste Management Academy

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has kick-started an academy targetted at educating citizens in the state on making informed decisions about waste management.

Announcing earlier in June 2020, the Acting Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, revealed that the LAWMA Academy will train and develop youths within the age range of 13 to 28 to be interested in waste management.

Odumboni noted that the beneficiaries of the academy would include also school leavers and those on industrial training from tertiary institutions.

Stating further its mission in a statement on Sunday, September 13, LAWMA reiterated that the academy would serve as a “knowledge hub for credible hands on tutelage and certification in solid waste management.”

The statement reads, “The LAWMA academy is an educational arm of LAWMA that engages an innovative approach to support corporate and personal development and drive social responsibility among citizens. The academy renders several programmes and services with the goal to improve waste literacy and promote good waste management practices to reduce, reuse and recycle.

“The academy, which was established to raise the next generation of scholars and entrepreneurs in waste management, is charged with the responsibility of implementing first-class educational programmes in waste management aimed at changing the social order, promoting care and respect for the environment and opening up business opportunities for people in the waste management sector,” the statement added.
