Abuja consultative dialogue: Northern, southern leaders resolve to work together

- Leaders from the southern and northern parts of Nigeria have agreed to work together to return Nigeria to the path of progress

- This was contained in a communique issued after a consultative dialogue facilitated by ex-President Obasanjo

- The leaders comprised the Northern Elders’ Forum, Middle Belt Forum, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Afenifere and Pan Niger Delta Forum

Northern and southern leaders of Nigeria have reportedly resolved to work together with the sole aim of returning to the country to the path of unity and progress.

ThisDay reported that the leaders comprised the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Middle Belt Forum, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Afenifere and Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).

Legit.ng gathers that the groups decried the general state of governance, the economy and security of the country.

This was disclosed in a communique issued by the convener of the meeting, Ambassador Ahmed Magaji, following the consultative dialogue held on Wednesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 10 in Abuja.

The groups also expressed their commitment to support and involve themselves in all activities targeted at improving the Nigerian constitution for the purpose of meeting the yearnings and aspirations of all Nigerian citizens.

The communiqué also revealed that the consultative dialogue was convened and facilitated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

It also stated that the leadership of the Nigerian governors were fully briefed on the initiative and its resolve.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Obasanjo unleashed a fresh volley of attacks on the incumbent, President Buhari, over his handling of the country's affairs.

The former president warned that Nigeria is fast drifting towards a failed state under the administration of President Buhari.

However, the presidency has also berated Obasanjo over his statement, describing the former president as Divider-in-Chief.

A statement signed by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu on Sunday, September 13, accused Obasanjo of attempts to divide the nation.

In another report, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has also responded to Obasanjo's criticisms of the Buhari-led administration.

Responding to Obasanjo, the APC in a statement on Sunday, September 13 signed by its acting spokesman, Yekini Nabena, stated that: “It is baffling that the same political actors that midwifed and institutionalised the national rot, corruption, impunity and eroding of our value systems are the same characters posing as voices on the way forward in our national life.”
